The Standard Bank Group Bursary Programme aims to cultivate academic excellence and nurture the future generation of African talent and leaders.

The bursary program supports undergraduate and postgraduate studies in various fields, including Agriculture, Commerce, Engineering, Mathematics, Science (Actuarial, Analytics, Business, Computer, Data, Information), Statistics, Technology (Financial, Information), as well as disciplines in the emerging field of Behavioural Economics (Economics, Behavioural Finance, Sociology, Psychology, Neuroscience).

Beneficiaries of the Standard Bank Group bursary will be required to work for Standard Bank if they receive a job offer from the bank upon graduation.

Undergraduate Bursary

The Standard Bank Group Undergraduate Bursary is designed for students who are on track to successfully complete their first year of studies and require funding from their second year onwards. Applicants should possess well-rounded qualities and demonstrate strong academic performance in relevant qualifications.

Minimum selection criteria:

• Applicants must have achieved an average of 65% and above in their most recent examinations.
• Applicants must be enrolled in full-time undergraduate studies.
• Applicants will need to undergo a formal assessment process, including but not limited to psychometric evaluation and an interview.
• Financial need is taken into consideration during the application process.

Postgraduate Bursary

The Standard Bank Group Postgraduate Bursary offers full-cost bursaries to financially deserving and academically accomplished students pursuing postgraduate studies in the supported fields.

Minimum selection criteria:

• Applicants must have achieved an average of 65% and above in their most recent examinations.
• Applicants must be registered for full-time postgraduate studies at a public South African institution of higher learning.
• Applicants will need to undergo a formal assessment process, including but not limited to psychometric evaluation and an interview.
• Financial need is taken into consideration during the application process.

Bursary Details

The Standard Bank Group Bursary Fund covers the following study and study-related costs:

• University fees.
• Accommodation, either in a university residence or private accommodation. Private accommodation costs will be subject to specific limits, which will be communicated to successful candidates upon provisional bursary allocation.
• Meals, provided either by the university or self-catering.
• Books and other study materials.
• A laptop computer.
• A monthly stipend to cover additional living expenses.
• Transport between home and campus four times a year, with the cost equivalent to a bus ticket.

Selection Criteria

The Standard Bank Group Bursary Fund is intended for students requiring financial support for their second, third, and final years of undergraduate studies, as well as for students pursuing postgraduate studies up to the Master’s level.

Applicants should demonstrate well-rounded qualities and exhibit strong academic performance in the fields of Agriculture, Commerce, Engineering, Mathematics, Science (Actuarial, Analytics, Business, Computer, Data, Information), Statistics, Technology (Financial, Information), as well as disciplines in the emerging field of Behavioural Economics (Economics, Behavioural Finance, Sociology, Psychology, Neuroscience).

Selection criteria include:

• Applicants should have a 65% aggregate.
• Applicants must be enrolled in full-time studies.
• Financially deserving applicants will be given priority.
