Ordnance Survey is currently looking for a Test Engineer (Python) to join our team. At OS, we believe work is something you do, not somewhere you go. You will join us on a full time, permanent basis, and in return, you will receive a competitive salary of £37,511 – £44,130 per annum (depending on experience).

We have a great opportunity for a highly passionate technical and analytical Engineer (Python) to join Ordnance Survey’s Engineering team in developing next generation systems, that drive our world-leading geospatial and business applications. You will work to develop test automation that supports the next generation of systems, which drive our world-leading geospatial and business applications.

Having a thirst for knowledge and the ability to think creatively are highly valued in OS Engineering’s culture and ethos. Working within an Agile team, you will be responsible for designing, and driving out automated tests and executing manual test suites to ensure adequate and effective test coverage and provide test assurance of the user stories according to the defined acceptance test criteria. This will be done in a test-first environment using cloud architecture, experience of working in this type environment is essential.

You will work closely with Software Engineers, in delivering the test activities to meet the functional and non-functional requirements of our stakeholders, whilst contributing to effective agile delivery. You will regularly participate in estimation activities and are encouraged to identify opportunities to maximise test benefit within the team. You will report to and provide regular updates to the domain Test Lead.

You will report to and provide regular updates to the domain Test Leadership; providing assurance at team retrospectives and planning sessions to ensure testing best practice, continual improvements and appropriate standards are adhered to.

What we’re looking for in our Test Engineer (Python):

  • Proficient in Python
  • Ability to design and write test harnesses from scratch
  • Expert in agile methodologies and working closely with engineers, advising on engineering improvement
  • Ability to create, configure, and maintain pipelines and automate tests in a test-first CI/CD environment, preferably Azure DevOps
  • Experience using Data technologies
  • Experience of testing in Azure Cloud and knowledge of the Azure Portal (or similar)
  • Experience of designing and implementing tests around functional test activities using TDD/BDD
  • Hands on experience of non-functional testing
  • Qualified to Foundation Level in Software Testing (or equivalent)
